Fedor Emelianenko Talks About His Physique, Lesnar, Nogueira Stoppage and Much More

MMA Fanhouse has a new interview up with Fedor and he touches on a number of issues, including his less than amazing physique.

We've all heard that you train very hard for your fights, and that you've trained as hard for the Arlovski fight as you did for the Tim Sylvia fight. And yet you don't look as cut and muscular as most MMA fighters. Does that say anything about how your training differs from other MMA athletes, like do you do less weightlifting?
All of my training is the same. Every fighter has a different physique and different baggage they bring to the ring. I don't rely on weight training. I haven't for several years. It's really more focusing on the opponent and working on sparring, wrestling and certain activities I do. It's all about the training camp. All the hard work and all the results that show up in the ring is a result of what's done before.

Fedor also discussed a possible future with the UFC and a future match-up with Brock Lesnar.
Dana White told me he hopes you'll fight Brock Lesnar in the UFC some day. Do you think you'll ever fight in the UFC, and what would it take to make that happen?
The fact that I'm not in the UFC is because we haven't been able to come to terms with the UFC. That's something the UFC is going to have to sit down with my manager, Vadim Finkelstein, and M-1 Global and work something out. I trust my team and Vadim very much and I trust that if things have not been agreed upon to date I know there's a reason.

With respect to whether I can fight there in the future? It's always a possibility. Brock Lesnar is a very good fighter and I would be more than happy to fight with him. But this is all talk. It's been talked about before, with Randy Couture, now with Lesnar, and maybe with Frank Mir in the future. But in order for that to happen we have to come to an agreement. Maybe by then there will be some other name. But that's all talk. Right now I'm very content and happy with working with Affliction and M-1.

When asked if he was surprised that Frank Mir was able to stop Nogueira, Fedor says not at all.
Were you surprised that Frank Mir finished Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, something you did not do in your fights with him?
No. It's not surprising. Antonio has taken a lot of punishment over the years and he's had a lot of fights and sooner or later that catches up with you. Sooner or later someone was going to knock him out, especially with the style of his fights: He takes a lot of hits, misses a lot of strikes and over the course of a career that's certainly something that plays a role. At the same time, you have to give Frank a lot of credit that he was the one to do it and he was the one to take advantage and have the right way of beating him.

  14. the reason Fedor wont join the UFC is because if he signs with them then thats all he can do. Dana has it set up to if you sign with the UFC then thats all you can do. Fedor likes to compete in russian sambo and judo tournaments. If Dana agrees to let him still compete in those events then Fedors manager will let him sign up.......an in my opinion that will be the end of the Brock hipe.... but thats just my opinion

  15. Well I think much of fedor relunctance to fight in the ufc is because he grew up so poor. The UfC has been paying less the 1 50th of there profits to the fighters.Fedor starting fighting to support his family not make a name for himself.I dont see him getting sucked into the BS honor / glory Bull hype.Hell do what is best for his family and him.I think it is a credit to his great integellence pride does come befor the fall good on him.PS I know I cant spell but a good point none the less

  16. But the UFC finally said, or Dana White rather, that he will let him fight in judo and samba and even advertise M1. It all came down to getting a piece of the UFC's pie. If you ask me The UFC should stop being greedy and maybe not give a piece a their pie but promote with others and let Lesnar for example to fight in Fedors world. Or any other UFC fighter for that matter like others have. But Dana won't cuz he wants all the cash. If you ask me...thats if you ask me... I think Fedor's Management is doing the right thing because their no dummies to business and are just playing Dana and the UFC right now to come with a different offer. In plain Emglish its called a "Bump" in sales. Getting to where they originally want to be but didn't lay it out there at first. I think he will end up fighting in UFC whether one fight or a few...
Either way the haters will say what they want and you can't stop em Just like they haven't been able to stop Fedor...

  17. UFC no place for Fedor, Fedor does not belong where all the stupid fighters belong. He's just a simpler and better, respectful man than any of those junkies in UFC. Fedor will beat the best of best of UFC as long as he feels like doing it, and Dana will pay.

  18. Sorry, but the UFC has agreed to let him compete with his Sambo and Judo hobbys. The problem now is that M-1 Global wants to copromote with the UFC and that, according to White, is never going to happen...They should at least do a one time co-promotion just so Fedor can fight Brock. I believe Randy would easily get owned by Fedor. I mean, if Brock beat Randy, Fedor would destroy Randy and then prolly decision or choke out Lesnar. Oh well, all about money with these punks!

  19. One last comment though, I don't think the UFC has the best fighters in the world -- the only best fighters are GSP, A.Silva & Machida - after that none survive outside the UFC - just look at Tim Sylvia, Arlovski, and others who've fought outside.

  22. I thought it was so weak when UFC said they have the best fighters. Espesially when pride fc was demolished. A lot of the fighters that came to the UFC after fighting in pride were the best fighters. One reason is because they fought for a more intelligent and respectful crowd in japan. Not a bunch of drunk rednecks who don't have an iq high enough to understand skill. Watch Noguera, Heath, Wanderle,CroCop,and others fight in pride and you will notice a huge difference in their performance.Plus the lighting in japan is always better. Unlike the ufc, which is such a depressing set up.But it goes back to what i said "drunk rednecks" as in a bar which always has bad lighting to hide their uglyness. The UFC has bad lighting to either hide theire ugliness, or to hide the quality of fighters who dont belong there. Because the UFC is ugly at its core. Another reason the ex pride fighters dont perform as well in the UFC is because the UFC is like the military, first destroy and then rebuild. That is theire policy, to shoot themselves in the foot because of theire ignorance and insecurity.
